More and more second-home owners are looking into maximizing their home value and turning their vacation homes into short-term rentals for others to enjoy as well.
According to T.J. Mahony, founder of FlipKey, approximately 15 percent of vacation homeowners now rent out their homes, compared with 10 percent a year earlier. By turning your second home into a rental for just a few weeks a year, the revenue off-sets some costs such as homeowner’s insurance, taxes, and utility cost.
A survey conducted by HomeAway.com, owners who rent their second homes make on average more than $33,000 a year in rental revenue.
