About the River House Inn:
This bed and breakfast overlooks the North Fork of the ironically named New River, the oldest in North America, in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina.

River House is not only a North Carolina Bed and Breakfast but a Country Inn that's really in the country. Located in Grassy Creek, North Carolina in the Blue Ridge mountains and directly on the historic New River.

Despite its name, the New River is one of the oldest rivers in the world, second in age only to the Nile River and thus the oldest in North America. It was dedicated as a National Scenic River in 1976. On July 30, 1998, President Clinton came to northwestern North Carolina in July to designate the New River an American Heritage River, an initiative born at a conference here at River House.

At River House Inn, there's a mile of riverfront for strolling wading tubing, canoeing and fishing.  Brown trout and rainbows abound. Walking trails wind through 160 acres. Our neighbors include deer, rabbits, wild turkeys, a great blue heron, eagles and an occasional bear - just no mosquitoes.

Elegant but unpretentious, the River House restaurant is known for its great food and ambiance. Only minutes from West Jefferson and forty-five minutes from Boone, River House is the first choice for fine dining in the Ashe County High Country.
