Enjoy the wonders of New River State Park this winter season. New River State Park offers a variety of learning opportunities for all ages. Typically led by park rangers, these interpretive programs allow the public to gain perspective into what makes North Carolina state parks naturally wonderful.
Most of the events are free, though some require pre-registration. All give park visitors deeper insight into the natural world.
Animal Signs
We may not always see the animals that live around us but we can see the signs they leave behind. Tracks, nests, holes and scat are all signs that we can learn to match up to our outside neighbors. Join a park ranger for a short presentation and then a 1-mile hike looking for and interpreting animal signs to identify the animals that live in New River State Park.

Once you are able to identify the dried stalks of the once colorful flowers, you may agree that there are no weeds in Winter and imagine only the promise of color next Spring.
