First Annual Fall Festival at the Ashe County’s Farmer’s Market
Don’t miss the First Annual Festival at the Farmers Market on Backstreet in West Jefferson. You’ll experience A Taste of the Market, an opportunity to sample savory soups and chili made with fresh market produce, and also get the recipes. Kids and grownups can choose from an array of activities: face painting, pumpkin painting, a cake walk, an old-time corn shucking contest, horse drawn carriage rides, delicious freshly pressed cider samples, and a fall photo pumpkin patch corner.When: October 8, 2016

To Kill a Mocking Bird at the Ashe County Little Theatre
The Ashe County Little Theatre will be presenting their last production of their 2016 season with “To Kill a Mockingbird.” Adapted from the Pulitzer Prize-winner Harper Lee novel, this tale of innocence, friendship, racism and courage is set in Alabama during the depression. The protagonist Scout, tells the story of what happened in her sleepy little town when she was a child. Scout’s father, Atticus, defends an innocent black man, Tom Robinson, who has been accused of raping a white woman. This classic story is famous for hammering home the universal themes of prejudice, understanding and respect.
