If you are a recreational shooter, check out the Ashe County Wildlife Club. With the weather warming up, they have a bunch of events lined up this April.
The Ashe County Wildlife Club is a non-profit educational, sporting, and wildlife conservation organization located in the Peak Creek community of Ashe County. In existence for over 50 years, membership is open by approved application to anyone. The 59-acre facility off J.E. Gentry Road has a Trout Pond, Skeet Field, Sporting Clays, 5-Stand Sporting, Wobble Tower, Trap Field, 300-yard-30 covered bench Rifle Range, and a 50-yard Pistol/Rimfire Range.5-Stand Friday Shoot
5-Stand Fridays is a shotgun trap shooting sport where shooters rotate through 5 positions under a shelter shooting at clays coming from the air and along the ground. $5 per 25-clay round. Shoot until everyone gets tired or runs out of ammunition. Members and Non-Members shoot at same cost. 5-Stand is located at top of Skeet Field. Follow signs.

Pistol Tactical Shoot
This will be a tactical style pistol shoot requiring drawing a pistol and shooting from simulated windows. Classes include sight-assisted for rim fire and center fire pistols and iron sights for rim fire and center fire. $5 cost.

100/200 Yard IBS Shoot
100 & 200 Yard International Benchrest Shooting (IBS) event. 30 benches facing down a 300-yard range. Visitors are welcome. Bring hearing protection! This shooting event involves firing high powered rifles at dot-sized bullseyes on paper targets. Wind direction and speed, gunpowder and bullet weight selection are critical factors.
