The Mission of the APK:
The Appalachian Memory Keepers is passionately committed to collecting and sharing the heritage and culture of Appalachia. Comprised of a group of volunteers, this nonprofit organization is dedicated to preserving and sharing Appalachian history, culture and stories. The sad truth is that the people who know this history, who lived this history, are passing, on a daily basis….and many of their stories of old Appalachia are being forever lost. The APK believes that these people and their stories, deserve respect, and have value…tremendous value. These stories should be kept alive because although the world is far different today….the information in these stories may be needed again, sometime in the near future. Our children and their children’s children need to know from whence they came. They need to know their authentic Appalachian heritage…and not the one that is so often frequently and foolishly stereotyped in pop culture.
Appalachian Memory Keepers is dedicated to preserving and sharing these stories and memories thru modern media, including film, podcast, photographs, and online articles.
