To mark Martin Luther King day, the Ashe County Arts Council will be holding a FREE community-wide celebration in honor of the great civil rights leader on Monday, January 16th at 7:00pm. Refreshments will be served.
This annual celebration will feature essays, speeches and tributes highlighting the message of Dr. King and his teachings of peace, unity and equality in our society. The program will include readings that highlight achievements by African Americans in the history of civil rights in America.
The event will be highlighted with an appearance from acclaimed actor and playwright Mike Wiley. Mr. Wiley had devoted the last decade to bringing educational theatre to young audiences and communities across the country. Mike has appeared on Discovery Channel, the Learning Channel and has been featured in Our State magazine and on PBS’ North Carolina Now. During this Martin Luther King Day celebration he will be focusing on key events and figures in African-American history.
