Alpaca Farm Springtime Visit

  • Alpaca Farm Springtime Visit

Here’s a fun way to celebrate the rural atmosphere of Ashe County: visit an alpaca farm!

Apple Hill Farm, located in Banner Elk, offers farm tours Wednesdays and Saturdays throughout this spring season. This alpaca farm sits atop Valle Mountain on the site of a 50-year-old apple orchard. Although the apple trees are no longer harvested for apples, they serve as the focal point for the property which is now home to alpacas, cats, chickens, dogs, donkeys, goats, horses, llamas and miniature donkeys.

Enjoy mountain views, wooded footpaths, and landscaped gardens that provide the ultimate picturesque setting for Apple Hill Farm’s animals and visitors. The farm store is fully stocked with over 20 varieties of alpaca yarn, plus socks, accessories, vests and more.

The farm is quite hilly so wear your walking shoes and bring a camera.

NOTE: On Saturday, June 3, 2017, you may want to check out Alpaca Shearing Day, which takes place on the first June of ever year. This is a FREE event where all of the alpacas are sheared from about 10am – 3pm. The farm will also have skirting and spinning demonstrations and our store is open all day.
